Orion's Photos: places - Alaska - Fairbanks - 2009 - red_green__not_a_quitter

We participated in the Red Green river regatta on July 26, 2009.
This was the day the Alaska governer, Sarah Palin, was handing over
her office to her Lt. Governer, Sean Parnell, so we wanted to make
people think about this event. Does resigning in the middle of your
term with no clear reason make one a quitter, or not? Say, a maverick,
or an Alexander the Great style lateral thinker? (The popular insults
to Sarah Palin's intelligence are certainly wrong; she is quite smart.)
So our float consisted of a Palin
cutout with a giant "QUITTER" banner on top. But we also made a
"NOT A" sign we could raise and lower at will, allowing us to give up
and "quit". Palin is a polarizing figure, even in Alaska, so we
got a strange combination of cheers and disgruntled muttering.
On the raft: captain Gregg Christopher, enforcer Orion Lawlor, engineer
Brad Krick, and artillery officer Bjorg Edberg.
