A spruce hen. They're pretty, but they're the dumbest creatures in the Alaska forest. Now, don't get me wrong, birds aren't the brightest critters on the planet, but you can "hunt" spruce hens with a baseball bat. Despite their wings, which are in fact fully functional.
I think they survive mostly due to good camo, and the ability to remain motionless.
