The HIPAS observatory was shutting down, and I had bought some desks and such in the auction. It's a weird place halfway to Chena Hot Springs, with dipole antennae and weirder structures dotting the landscape.
The place was a very odd mix of Alaska (vegetation, buildings, gravel roads) and Sci-Fi (giant cables snaking around, red "HIGH VOLTAGE" boxes, inexplicable metal things sticking off of roofs).
